Description

All Skills Training Hockey Camp  August 12 – 16 @ Goderich Recreation and Community Centre / and Cabin Training Centre near Naftel Creek

Head Ice / Group Leader – Eric Calder, Associated Group Leaders To Be Announced :
Day Camp (24 player spots and 4 goalie spots available).

The camp offers two active ice times in the morning designed to enhance and define the skills needed to succeed (80-minutes, flood, 50-minutes). The participants begin with power skills and skating (full ice and small ice zone training stations) working on individual skills such as skating, shooting, passing, dekes, defending, stick handling, checking and more. Each session has a specific focus and progression over the course of the week. In later sessions we introduce individual and team tactics (passing). The final component of each session is a small ice games…lots of different ones. This training format keeps everyone active throughout, thereby maximizing skill development time.

One distinguishing plus for Skills Plus Hockey Camps is the leadership on the ice and off the ice. Eric Calder (On-Ice Head Instructor and Camp Organizer) has 20 plus years of on ice teaching experience at Skills Plus Hockey Camps, has his highest level of Coaching (High Performance 2), is a Hockey Canada Certified Skills Coach(new stream issued by Hockey Canada) and has learned a lot with thousands of on-ice practical teaching hours. Off-ice the group leaders are most of time trained teachers with the Ontario School Board and who have been teaching camps at Skills Plus Hockey for many years now. I encourage you to go to the bio page and have a look. This is the biggest distinguishing feature that separates Skills Plus Hockey from other hockey camps in the area. Goalies will participate in lots of goalie specific drills and a dedicate goalie instructor is assigned. The on-ice activities are schedule for first thing in the morning. All dat campers will meet at the rink to start the day.

The off-ice activities will take part at 79176 Bluewater Hwy….a twelve acre property that borders the Naftels Creek Conservation arena (125 acres). We will travel by school bus each day after the on-ice hockey. The property has lots of trails and nature. A number of different stations / areas are set up for a variety of activities throughout the afternoon.  The Rep level and specialty camps place more of a focus on hockey-related off- ice fitness with the use of the Quick Feet dryland program to enhance core strength and the aerobic and anaerobic base needed to perform at a competitive level. Other activities are cooperative games, yoga, stream walking, obstacle course training, age appropriate resistance training, music social (Eric’s jam session…below), and more.

Back again will be Eric’s jam session. I love to play guitar, harmonica and sing in my spare time. I used to play and perform in bars in Europe when I was playing pro hockey. I’ve been playing for years and have enjoyed singing to all the groups that have attended camp. I’ve had a lot of positive comments from attendees and look forward to playing again this year.

All summer camps are co-ed, with participants divided into sub-groups according to ability. The girls who attend camp will share a dressing room together…at times they’ll have some separate activities off-ice together.

Day Campers will be picked up at the arena at the end of the day….4 to 4:30pm.
